Have you ever felt like you’re stuck doing the same thing over and over, that you just want to go out and experience something new?

If you can leave your work or house right now, what’s the very first thing you want to do?

If your answer is travelling, we don’t blame you. Whether it’s checking out a newly opened restaurant from another city or traveling to another country, people simply have an affinity for exploration.

We love to discover new places and try out new things. It’s human nature to be curious. If you’re one of those who have a knack for discovering hidden wonders, then we have somewhere to recommend that you will definitely enjoy.

One of China’s Richest

Dubbed as China’s Silicon Valley, Shenzhen is the country’s leading technological hub. But this doesn’t mean the city is only a rapidly growing business center.

The city doesn’t have as many attractions as the other cities in China but it still is brimming with a diverse choice of activities to enjoy — whether you’re the indoor type of person, or the adventurer who prefers to explore outdoors.

Enjoy Nature

If what you’re looking for is a relaxing getaway from the ruckus and the fuss of city life, Shenzhen has a lot to provide.

Despite being a business hub — a city filled with skyscrapers and busy stores — Shenzhen also has a side to it that’s filled with serene and gorgeous landscapes, that falls quite in contrast to their cityscape.

For you nature lovers out there, here are some of Shenzhen’s natural sights.

  • Maluan Mountain

If you’re looking for a good hike, then give Maluan mountain a go.

The spot is dubbed the most authentic hike in the city, with its natural and rural paths and breathtaking greeneries. Unlike other hiking paths, Maluan doesn’t provide its guests with stairs and instead lets its hikers enjoy a natural trail.

Other than hiking, there is a waterfall within the mountain where you can enjoy a quick dip in after the tiring walk.

Actually getting there can be difficult since it’s deep in Yantian district. By public transportation, you can get bus M181, 103 or 103B directly to Xiaomeisha terminal and start your hike there.

  • Nanshan Mountain

If you prefer a safer, easier and quicker hike, then you should definitely check out Nanshan Mountain.

Unlike Maluan, nanshan is a hiking trail for those who prefer stair pathways. When on top, the mountain has a lot of several points which provide quite fantastic views of the city below it.

To get here, you need to exit at Seaworld Metro station exit A, then follow the road and turn right, until you see the sign for Nanshan Mountain Park.

  • Dameisha and Xiaomeisha beaches

After the tiring hiking trips under the scorching heat of the sun, you might want to enjoy a relaxing and cooling dip in the sea. Dameisha and Xiaomeisha beaches are a popular destination for that.

While both share the same shoreline, and are in fact right beside each other, they both have their own unique features.

If you’re looking for a more adventurous time, then Dameisha is the better half for you. With its abundance in picturesque reefs, caves and cliff sides, and various activities such as parasailing, other water sports and even horse riding, you will surely not run out of new things to try.

Xiaomeisha, on the other hand, has a bit of a more exclusive atmosphere, with the fact that they charge an entrance fee. The beach is composed of three areas: the seaside, the ocean world, and the hotel. Additionally, like Dameisha, it also offers a lot of activities such as jet skiing and underwater diving.

Learn more of the History

Shenzhen is also known for having traditional villages scattered around its city, as well as for well-preserving China’s rich history within these.

A tour through these historical villages grants tourists a clear glimpse into ancient Chinese culture — a world away from the modernity and fast-paced advancements of the city.

  • Huanggang Village

In this village, you can witness Chinese living as it was done in the old days. Walking around the area will give you a feel as if you’re back in time with the residents’ preservation of some original fixtures.

Huanggang also has the first village museum in China. It houses objects and photos that record the history of the village. Other than the historical artifacts, guests also come here to enjoy the village’s evening square dance — one of the village’s highlights.

  • Dapeng Fortress Ancient Village

Located in the far east of Shenzhen is Dapeng Fortress Ancient Village. And as the name implies, the village has an ancient ambiance that will take you back to 1394.

The village was built 600 years ago and was a battle site in the Opium wars in the 19th century. It also housed local fishermen, who in their time tried to defend themselves and the village against invading pirates.

This rich history is kept within the village’s museum, small temples, ancient store houses and mansions of navel leaders.

To get to the village, you need to go to Futian bus station and take Bus E26 to Dapeng bus station. Once arrived, you need to change to local bus B753 towards the fortress.

Enjoy Shenzhen’s Modernity

Shenzhen isn’t only a place fit for business trips, people who love discovering natural recreations and historical wonders, it is also a place for the young at heart.

Amid the city’s bustling business character are the enjoyable modern pastime activities, theme parks, and bars you can enjoy.

  • Shuiwei Cultural Block

At the heart of Futian lies Shuiwei Cultural Block.

This block is a collection of bars, cafes and restaurants best fit for any kind of occasion — whether you’re out spending leisure time with your family or a romantic time with your partner, you will surely like it here.

Shuiwei also has a cosy alley to walk through and enjoy the cooling breeze at night, if the crowd and music get a little suffocating to you.

  • i-Go Private Cinema

For couples looking to have a romantic time in the city, i-Go private cinema is a popular choice, featuring both Hollywood and local blockbusters.

This place may not be as formal as other places but it sure is romantic. Who doesn’t enjoy a good movie and some cuddling time with their partner?

The way here is so accessible, all you need to do is get off Fumin’s B metro exit and turn right and into the neighboring building, take the elevator and you’re there.
